Working from home can be both a blessing and a curse. Sure, it’s great that I could work in my pajamas if I wanted to, but I’m also always distracted by things like the pile of laundry staring me down or the weird noises coming from the dog in the other room. Being a work-from-home mom is even more challenging because kids are loud and weird and very needy (am I right?). Having a dedicated home office helps a lot, but my office needs to be a space that’s not only functional, but beautiful. I am inspired when I work in a beautiful space, so having a stylish home office is essential for me!

Laptop
My Macbook Pro is by far one of the best investments I have ever made. I got mine in 2013 and it is still going strong. I will never go back to a PC! Once my Macbook kicks the bucket, I want to get my grubby little hands on a Macbook Air. They are lightweight and slim, but just as powerful as the Pro.
Laptop Stand
I just got myself this nifty little laptop stand and I wish I had gotten it sooner! It puts my screen at the perfect height for better posture, which we all need. It also has a great little space underneath that I can tuck my wireless keyboard into for safekeeping. So handy!
Wireless Keyboard
I also just purchased this handy little wireless keyboard. It is run on solar power and it synced right up to my laptop!
Desk
For me, a desk is a very personal choice and one of the more important ones in your home office. This is where style and function really mesh. I found my desk (which was originally just a small table) at a thrift store many years ago (this one is VERY similar to mine). It was a horrid little wood piece but it had really good bones. I quickly revived it with a few coats of white paint and now it is my favorite desk of all time!
Chair
Your chair is also a really important component in a home office. You want it to be comfortable and give you good support, but you also want it to be chic and fit the look of the space. I was lucky to find a great little tufted gray rolling chair at HomeGoods, but there are a lot of options out there!
Lighting
A cute little lamp on your desk is a great accessory but also really functional. Sometimes the glare of overhead light is just too much. Lamplight is much more soothing and looks great too! I love the modern farmhouse vibe of this lamp, don’t you?
Router
Clearly, there is nothing sexy about a router, but it’s super necessary in any home office. I love my Orbi router system. I tend to hide electronics like this as much as possible, but even if this one had to be seen, it’s not that bad looking.
Printer/Copier
My printer/copier is so essential. I’m a huge fan of HP products, and this little machine is a power house. I can copy, print, scan and even fax if I wanted to!
Bookcases
Besides a nice desk, bookcases are the second most important piece of furniture in my space. I am a writer, an avid reader, and a lawyer, so I have a LOT of books! I needed somewhere to organize all my books, as well as my office supplies, and these bookshelves from IKEA are not only stunning, but really functional. Worth every penny (which was not a lot, actually).
Scanner
Even though my copier can scan, I prefer to have a compact, portable scanner because it’s simply more convenient. This little scanner is REALLY amazing. I try to keep a paperless office and this baby helps me get paperwork in the system and organized quickly and efficiently.
Shredder
After I scan my important papers I shred everything with this handy, and quite powerful, cross shredder I found on Amazon.
Planner
Finally, I wouldn’t be able to get anything done, or remember any of my appointments, without my Brilliant planner! I have been through just about every type of planner there is and this one has stood the test of time with me. I love it because it is undated and it has both monthly and weekly sheets. There are weeks when I simply forget to write down my schedule and I hate that I would have to skip those pages in traditional dated planners. Such a waste! This one lets me use the pages as I need them and it’s small enough that I can toss it in my purse when I’m on the go.
What are some of you essentials for a stylish, yet functional, office?
I love the chair! It’s pretty and functional. My laptop would probably run better if it had a stand under it.
Wow, I love your office!! I’m trying to put mine together, so def saving this as inspiration 🙂
This would be a dream home office for me, it is absolutely gorgeous! I am definitely going to try out that laptop stand.
Oh I get distracted by all of the home stuff too!!!! Haha. Loving this laptop stand though… I need that!
That office is so pretty! The bookcases are gorgeous. (I always look at bookcases first. Lol.)
