Well, folks, we are officially halfway through the Fall One Room Challenge! This past weekend my handy husband and I worked hard to tackle as much as we could during nap times and I am happy with how things are coming along!

We started the weekend by making a family trip to Home Depot (the kids love these trips!). We grabbed some paint and some extra wood for the board and batten because, as is usual for me, I changed my mind on the design and needed more supplies. Hubby and I also picked up a couple of new tools while we were out:
We grabbed this awesome Bosch self-leveling cross line laser level. I was able to install it on a tripod and it gave us a nice level line every single time! I’m not sure how we lived without this thing this long.
We also decided to purchase this Dewalt angled nail finisher because the brad nailer we had just wasn’t going to cut it for a job like board and batten. We chose the angled version (as opposed to the straight version) because of it’s superiority in getting in tight corners. I’m not sure which of us was more excited about picking up a new power tool!
Anyway, the majority of our weekend was spent cutting and installing the pieces of wood that will make up our board and batten. We kinda followed the tutorial over at Young House Love, but modified it in some respects. They have a great tutorial, though, that really helped to guide us in this process.
I still have a little more work to do on the board and batten but we got the majority of it done and I’m thrilled! I also prepared the walls for painting by removing all of the art and nails and spackling any holes (I also repaired the termite damaged wall). And my gorgeous new chandelier arrived in a GIANT box today! I can’t wait to get it hung!
Here’s the status of the to-do list after this weekend. Progress!
Remove chair rail.Repair termite damaged wall (grrrrrr…).Buy wood for board & batten.Buy paint for wall and board & batten.- Finish board & batten.
- Paint walls and board & batten.
Order chandelier.- Order rug.
- Order bamboo shades.
- Make chair slipcovers.
- Install all the new things.
- Decorate and take pictures (my favorite part!).
We definitely still have a lot of work to do, but I’m far more hopeful about making the deadline now! Don’t forget to head over to Calling It Home to check out all of the other One Room Challenge participants and their amazing projects!
This looks great! I just added board and batten to our fireplace this weekend, so I am sort of obsessed with the stuff 🙂 Can’t wait to see how your finished ORC turns out!
That laser level is a game changer! Can’t wait to see the final room.
I’m curious about the angle nail gun. I’ve been trying to find some way to nail ship lap to a kitchen wall. The dilemma is that that wall hides a pocket door! Nothing to nail to accept the sides. Wondering if the angle nail gun would work. I can use liquid nails on the center pieces but I need something stable as well. What do you think?
I need a laser level. This wall treatment is going to be spectacular. Can’t wait to see your new chandelier!
