It is no secret that I have an obsession with French style accent chairs. The term for the style of chair that I love is a “Bergere chair.” Essentially, a Bergere chair is an upholstered French armchair, designed for lounging in comfort. It features a larger, wider seat than most armchairs and they often come with matching footrests. They are, in my opinion, very beautiful chairs and they are also incredibly comfortable.
The two Bergere chairs I own have both been thrift store or Craigslist finds. They were in good shape and just needed new upholstery, which I did myself (you can read more about that here). I adore my chairs because I was able to make them exactly what I wanted them to be. But upholstery is hard work and not for everyone! Sometimes it’s nice to just buy a beautiful, brand new chair and have it delivered to you, amiright?
So for those of you who love the French country or farmhouse look but really have no interest in trying to reupholster a thrifted chair, this post it for you! Not a shabby collection of affordable chairs! Honestly, if I had come across any one of these beautiful chairs before buying my own Bergere chairs, I may not have gone to the trouble of reupholstering two thrifted chairs!

My choices for my home would be number 3 and 4. Love the shape and size and I like neutral colors. Adding pillows is my thing to change the look up.
