Welcome to the Room by Room Fall Decor Series! In this series I am sharing some easy tips for adding fall decor to the various rooms of your home. Each week I will focus on a different space, and this week we are taking a look at fall decor inspiration for your patio and porch!
One of my favorite places to decorate for fall is the front porch. I love to do it because it’s the first part of your home most people see and it will leave a big impression. I think making the entryway of your home as welcoming as possible is always a good call, especially in the fall!
Here are some of my favorite ways to add a touch of fall to your front porch and back patio (if you’re lucky enough to have one!).

Fall Decor Ideas for Patio & Porch
Wreaths
Adding a wreath to your front door is the easiest way to add a fall touch to your porch. I don’t like using the metal door hangers because they’ve never done well over our doors and I think they’re distracting. Instead I hang my wreaths from a small nail in the wood of the door, or I hang one from a wide length of ribbon that I’ve attached to the very tip-top of the door with thumbtacks. Works like a charm!

Mums
I love adding mums to the front porch in my fall decor! They bring a bright pop of color and they’re very easy to take care of. Mums are very inexpensive, easy to find, and will last you all season if you water them when they need it.

Pumpkins
Pumpkins are a must on any fall porch. You can stick with the traditional orange beauties or change things up with the beautiful blue, green, or white pumpkins (my favorite!). I love adding real pumpkins when I can find them in stores, but until they become available, faux pumpkins will do the trick!

Seating Area
There is nothing more cozy and welcoming on a front porch than a rocking chair or bench draped with a plaid blanket! I would love to have a porch big enough to accommodate two rocking chairs, but our porch is small, so I may just have to settle for a small bench. Either way, having a decorated seating area is a classic way to add fall to your porch.

Signs
Large hand-painted signs resting on the side of the front porch has been a trend over the last few years and I, for one, love it. You can go as rustic or as refined as you like and it adds just another texture and dimension to your fall porch. You can find all kinds of hand-painted signs on Etsy or you can make your own (it’s really very easy!).

Welcome Mat
Yes, I am one of those nerds who changes her welcome mat by the season. I love this layered look of the woven rug beneath the mat! I can’t wait to incorporate this into my porch decor this fall!

Vintage Ladders
I have a thing for vintage ladders. They are so versatile inside and outside the home. I use a vintage ladder in my home to store blankets and old grain sacks, but I love the use of them outside as well. Even without the blankets, a vintage ladder on your porch (maybe with a wreath hung on it?) would be a beautiful addition to your decor!

Porch Swing
Y’all. That swing! I would love to have a swing like that on my back patio! Can you imagine chilly nights swinging with your other half and drinking a glass of wine? Yes, please! What a perfect way to add fall to the back patio.

Dining Area
If you’re lucky enough to have a dining space on the back patio, please use it as much as you can this fall! Dinners with close friends outside is probably one of the best ways you can spend your fall evenings. Add a beautiful floral centerpiece to the table, some lanterns and candles, throw a blanket or two over the chairs and tuck in to a cozy fall meal.
