Valentine’s Day has never been my favorite holiday. It has always seemed rather silly to me, unless of course I’m getting spoiled. Since my husband refuses to celebrate a “Hallmark holiday” there is little to no chance of me being spoiled on Valentine’s Day, so it remains on the bottom of my favorite holidays list.
Now that we have kids, though, it’s getting a little harder to just ignore Valentine’s Day. Everything from Daniel Tiger to pre-school class parties to the Target Dollar Spot advertises this holiday to my kids. So despite my best intentions to just gloss over it, I have found myself starting to embrace it because there’s nothing cuter than my daughter getting excited about making 20 paper hearts with glitter stickers to pass out to her classmates.
But decorating for this holiday is hard for me for a single reason: I hate red. Hate it. With a passion. I just can’t bring myself to put it in my home. I can handle a little pink, but I just can’t do red.
