Becoming a mom has been challenging in so many ways and on so many levels. Learning to take care of beautiful, precious souls from the moment they are created and to raise them to be decent human beings has got a giant learning curve (no pressure, right?). A lot of things that I loved or enjoyed before I became a mom had to be sacrificed so that I could, at the very least, survive the early years of motherhood. One of those things was the tight control I used to have on my body, specifically, fitness and nutrition.
I know there are moms out there who don’t have to struggle very hard to get back to their pre-baby body. I am not one of them. Not even a little. God bless those moms, y’all, but they make me so jealous! Even before I had kids, I struggled with my weight. I’ve been really big (hello, college!), really fit (hello, law school!) and really just surviving (hello, babies!). I have been every size from 0 to 14. It is not fun to be on a roller coaster of weight gain and loss and it certainly doesn’t help my shopping habit.
So, I’m done. I’m done being a mom-blob. I’m determined, now that I’m DONE having babies (factory is CLOSED, thank you baby Jesus!), to take back that control that I once had over my fitness and eating habits. No more chicken nuggets for lunch because it’s what I made the kids. No more birthday cake at all the birthday parties we now go to (there’s at least one or two a month these days). No more skipping workouts because my son decided to revert back to his waking-every-two-hours sleeping habits. Guzzle that coffee and suck it up!
I have decided to be a better me. And I want to challenge you to be a better you.
