One of my very favorite things to do in the whole world is decorate for Christmas. Every year about the end of October I start getting ants in my pants about putting out my Christmas decor. Only for the sake of my husband do I wait as long as I can but, inevitably, I will wear him down about two weeks before Thanksgiving. As soon as he breaks, it’s like Christmas explodes all over my house. And it makes me so very happy.
I am not a professional by any stretch of the imagination, but I have a deep love and appreciation for home decor. That love and appreciation goes through the roof during the holidays. Any time I go over to a friend’s house, especially during the holiday season, I am itching to wander around their house to see all the decor. Am I the only one who does this? I’m usually the first person to ask for a house tour, so I thought it would be fun to take you all on a virtual house tour of my Christmas home!
The first place I decorate is always my living room. I start with the tree and the mantle and then I add little touches here and there.
This year, I nixed all our traditional tree skirts and decided to use things like baskets and crocks to house our trees. I really love the way the basket skirt looks in our living room!
I have a thing for rocking horses and nutcrackers in my holiday decor. I am a giant fan of the Nutcracker ballet and I started collecting nutcrackers years ago. Now, my daughter is also obsessed with the ballet and nutcrackers so she has begun a collection in her room!
Next I move on to my kitchen. I don’t do a ton of decorating in this room, but I find that ever year I add more and more because I just love a Christmas kitchen.
I like to place tiny flocked trees in nooks of my open cabinets and this year I strung a garland above my upper cabinets.
I have an old window that hangs in my breakfast nook that I love to hang wreaths from. This time I added a little Christmas banner as well. I also created a quick greenery arrangement in an old ironstone soup tureen and placed it in the middle of our breakfast table.
All throughout the halls and little alcoves of my home I like to add little touches of Christmas. We have a coat hook shelf on our hall wall where I hung a darling little “reindeer feed sack” filled with greens.
In the small hall leading to our bedroom I have a giant framed chalkboard that I hung a simple wreath from. I love hanging wreaths from all of our main windows as well.
The second tree we have downstairs is in our dining room. This one is housed in an old 5-gallon crock and I just love it! I decided to do more simple decor in this room, and I decked the tree with natural wood ornaments that I found at Michael’s.
I added some greenery to my beloved ironstone pitchers in an arrangement on the table and I strung a garland and hung a wreath on my white china cabinet. I just love hosting dinners in this room when it’s all decked out for Christmas!
Finally, in our bedroom I hung some wreaths from the windows and one above our bed.
I also put a small tree on a little table beside my chaise where I have quiet time in the morning. It’s a magical spot!
I also added a couple of white quilted stockings on the salvage iron piece we have on one wall.
That’s it for the downstairs! I hope to get some shots of our upstairs decor but it’s really going to depend on if I can get everything clean and keep my messy children away for long enough to grab my camera! Toddlers. You know?
I hope you liked the tour!
Oh I love this Chey! I can’t believe how much I’ve missed from your blog. For some reason the feed stopped sending updates to my reading list, so I am deleting all the sites and re-adding them. Seems to be working so far. I am so excited to read up on all of your projects. Talented doesn’t even begin to describe your skills! Absolutely gorgeous work! Just walking around your house must make you smile. You’ve definitely brought the JOY to your Christmas home.
