Can you believe Christmas is only three sleeps away?! How did that happen? Does anyone else have a ton of wrapping to do still or is it just me?
Despite all of the busy-ness of the season and sometimes the overwhelming amount of stuff I have to get done in 24 short days, I still LOVE this season more than anything. Every year I have to restrain myself from decorating until after Thanksgiving. I just love to decorate my house for Christmas and I get depressed when I have to take it all down.
I also love seeing how others decorate their homes (in general, but especially for Christmas). So I thought I’d share a few of the favorite festive spots in my home this year.
In our living room we have a tree, of course. This year I decided to go super-neutral and I kept all the ornaments clear, silver or shimmery white. I love how it looks when all lit up (this picture doesn’t do it justice). I added the burlap bow at the last minute and I love how it adds just a bit of rustic to the tree. I made the tree skirt several years ago using a drop cloth and strips of cream fabric and hot glue. I still love it!
Our “new” old piano was a fun addition for me to decorate this year. I can’t wait to paint our paneling in the new year so everything doesn’t look so orange in my living room, and the piano will “pop” better instead of blending into the walls. But for now, I think the piano looks lovely and festive.
My fireplace is another key area I love to decorate but I went pretty low-key (for me) this year because I’m still navigating how to decorate around a giant flat screen tv (thanks, hubs). I didn’t put out all of our stockings because I felt it would overwhelm the space so I just stuck with hanging the kiddos “giant socks” as Aislin calls them.
I also LOVE my giant nutcrackers that flank the fireplace opening. Although, it has been exhausting keeping Hawkins from trying to knock them down all season.
I kinda have a thing for antique rocking horses. I found the one on my fireplace at an antique store in Fort Worth. I stalked it for a year before I finally bought it. He’s my favorite.
This toy horse and santa is a Round Top antique find.
I just picked up this little guy at Hobby Lobby. I can’t decide if I’ll leave him like he is or re-paint and distress him. What do you think?
One of my favorite additions this year was this DIY Christmas village that I made with the help of my hubby (he’s a rock star on the miter saw). These little wood houses were so simple (and cheap!) to make. I have another set in my dining room because they were so easy to make!
In my kitchen I kept things simple: just a few bottle brush trees in the open cabinets and a cute old truck on my cutting board.
Another of my favorite antique finds is this old sled. I dressed it up with a wreath and some bells and put it in my downstairs foyer. I don’t want to put it outside because I’m so paranoid someone will run off with it! (Clearly, I never got around to changing my chalkboard art to something Christmas-y. Whatever. It’s technically still fall, right?)
The landing on my stairs did not escape my decorating fever, either. I’m a bit obsessed with hanging wreaths in windows. And I added a little Charlie Brown tree in an antique crock.
Upstairs in the hall I added another wreath and my all-time favorite nutcracker to our half-table. He’s a bagpiper. I’m obsessed with him.
So that’s just a tiny (for real, I didn’t even photograph half of my decor) taste of my Christmas decorations for this year! Hope you liked the tour!
