One of my favorite Christmas traditions that we started when my daughter was born is our Christmas book tradition.
Every year, I put a basket of 24 Christmas books under our tree. Every night of December, Aislin picks out one book to read before bed. On Christmas Eve, we always read The Night Before Christmas. For a book lover like me, this was a tradition I started collecting for when I was pregnant with Aislin. It is so special for us!
You can find Christmas books everywhere. I bought most of mine from Goodwill, garage sales, thrift stores or Half Price Books. Just be on the lookout all year and grab them when you get the chance. Some are definitely better than others so try to glance through them before you spend your money (for example, The Little Match Girl is supposed to be a Christmas book but it is the single most depressing children’s book I have ever read. EVER. Just…why?! Who writes a book like that for kids?! Don’t buy that one.).
These are a few of our favorites. I especially love the Grinch, Polar Express and Charlie Brown. (OMG! The Little Match Girl is in that pile! I DID NOT put that book in my favorites pile. That book is the devil, I’m telling you.) Sorry. Moving on.
Not only do my husband and I love this tradition, but my daughter gets super excited to pick out a book every night. I hope our son will grow to love it as well. For now, he’s happy just to eat the books.
