We are slowly but surely getting our 1980’s-fabulous house updated. The living room is going to be one of the last rooms that gets updated because, honestly, the thought of painting all that paneling makes me want to just burn the place down. So instead of focusing on all the big projects that have to be done in that room, I focused on a smaller, more manageable project I knew we could get done in a weekend. I love the farmhouse look and I wanted to add a farmhouse style coffee table in our living room, but I did not want to spend a ton of money.
After some researching and dreaming, I figured out a way I could easily “build” my own farmhouse coffee table using a pre-made table from IKEA. Here’s how we did it!
Farmhouse Style Coffee Table Hack
First we bought the Lack table from IKEA for less than $50. It was super easy to put together and a great size for our space.
Next we picked up a few 1X6 and 2X6 pine boards from Lowe’s. I had hubby cut them down to an inch longer than the top of the Lack table (I wanted just a bit of a lip on the table top). Then we glued and nailed the boards down on the top of the table.
Finally, I stained the pine boards with Rust-Oleum Ultimate Wood Stain in weathered gray and sealed it with a matte polyurethane. I let the poly cure for the recommended 7 days and then decorated!
I think it turned out well for such and easy and inexpensive project. Now if we could only find the time and energy to paint those orangey wood walls…they are the stuff of nightmares, y’all. Ugh.
What cheap and easy projects have you been up to lately?
Brilliant transformation, inexpensive too ! Thanks for sharing this !
