I got my second Happy Mommy Box in the mail the other day and I was super excited to see what was inside (you can read my review of my first Happy Mommy Box here).
First up were these temporary tattoos for kids. I’m not a huge fan. They’re cute, for sure, but not really useful or what I would want in a box of goodies for moms, you know? I don’t think I’ll ever use them, but I’ll see what my daughter thinks. It might be funny to watch her freak out that it won’t come off. Just kidding. Maybe…
Next was this set of sweet little notebooks. I’m a sucker for stationary, notebooks, notecards, etc. I have no idea what I’ll use these for but I love them. This was a big winner item for me.
Then there was this little baggie of granola. Okay. Well, thanks for the snack. It was delicious.
This tassel necklace confuses me. It’s cute and it’s trendy (right? I’m not the trendiest person on the block so correct me if I’m wrong). I’m not sure if I would ever wear it (I’m not even sure how to wear something like this…again, trendy is not my forte) but I’m sure a lot of cooler moms loved this addition to the box.
Next was this black knit headband. Cute and great for the winter. Except it came in a box in March and I live in Texas so it’s already pushing 80 degrees most days around here. Nevertheless, I like this addition. It’s too bad it will have to sit in a box in my closet until it gets cold again in November.
This little print is one of my favorite things from this box. I think I’m going to frame it and put it in my daughter’s (very soon to be re-decorated) room.
Finally, there was this bottle of nail polish in a great periwinkle color. LOVE this color. I rarely have time to paint my nails anymore but this little bottle of polish inspired me to make time for a DIY pedicure. Pretty toes make me smile.
Overall, I was still a bit disappointed in the contents of this box. I think they got some things really right and then other things were a bit off (granola?!). I wouldn’t have ordered another box from Happy Mommy Box after this go-round, but that doesn’t matter anymore because they have completely changed the way they’re doing things now. Evidently, they have changed their business model. Now they offer two different types of boxes: Build a Box and Themed Boxes.
Build a Box is where you choose one item out of three categories to create a care package for you or a friend. These boxes run around $23 plus shipping. In my opinion, I think this is a bad move on their part. For me, the excitement of getting a box is not knowing what’s inside and being surprised with fun goodies every month. Choosing what goes in my box takes all the fun out of it and, frankly, isn’t worth the money to me.
The Themed Boxes, however, are genius. They have one for new moms, a grief and loss box and a celebrate motherhood box. I can totally see ordering a new mom box for all my friends who are expecting their first babies. These boxes are definitely something I would spend money on to gift a friend with.
What do you think? Are these boxes something you’d be interested in getting for yourself or a friend?
I’m totally confused by the contents of this box!
I’m not sure if I’d use this service or not? Seems kind of randomly put together?
I agree, Jenn. I love the concept but I think it needs a bit more cohesion.
Ya they are definitely capitalizing on the “box” craze…but to be successful, you need to have it together and provide the coolest, neatest things that make sense. And pay attention to where you are sending things…head wrap in March in TX?! Hahaha
